RULES & REGULATIONS 2023

Art. 1
The competition is addressed to all young musicians of all nationalities.

Art. 2
The purpose of the competition is to promote the musical culture and encourage the young people to the music study.

Art. 3
The competition will take place on 4-5-6-7-8-9 July 2023 at Sala Alida Ferrarini in Villafranca of Verona.

Art. 4
The performances will be public and split up into the following sections and categories:

FIRST SECTION

- 4th Villafranca International Piano Competition, divided into six categories, open to pianists born from
1998
Cat. “Fist Notes”: born from 2015 free repertoire max 5 minutes
Cat. A born from 2013 to 2014 free repertoire max 8 minutes
Cat. B born from 2010 to 2012 free repertoire max 12 minutes
Cat. C born from 2007 to 2009 free repertoire max 15 minutes
Cat. D born from 2003 to 2006 free repertoire max 20 minutes
Cat. E born from 1998 to 2002 free repertoire max 25 minutes

Execution by heart is not mandatory.

Competitors are allowed to make their registration in a higher category respect their age, but not the
inferior one.

SECOND SECTION

Piano Execution, at unique category, open to pianists born from 1983

Preliminary Testing
Free repertoire max 15 minutes including a study of bright character chosen among F. Chopin, F. Liszt, C.Debussy, S. Rachmaninov, S. Prokofiev, A. Skryabin, B. Bartok, G. Ligeti

Semifinal Testing (max 12 candidates)
Free repertoire max 20 minutes

Final Testing (3 canditates) in concert form
Free repertoire max 30 minutes

Execution by hear of all programs is mandatory and it is not allowed to repete the programs played in the
previous testings.

In case the Management does not consider sufficient the number of competitors registered, they reserves the right to suppress one or more categories. The application fee will be fully reimbursed.
In case of cacellation by the canditate for any reason not tied to the pandemic (Covid-19) the application fee will be not reimbursed.
The solists of the First Section are allowed to take part to the Second Section and vice versa

Art. 5
Facilitated transcriptions are not admitted.

Art. 6
Management reserves the right to modify the competition announcement and eventually to suppress one or more categories in case of inadequate number of applicants. Only in this case the application fees will be reimbursed. In addition, management is not responsible for risks and/or damages of any nature which should occur to competitors during the period of the performance.

Art. 7
Competitors will be admitted to test the piano in the timings arranged by the organization.

Art. 8
Candidates must show proof of identity and a copy of the pieces that have to be edited.

Art. 9
The rehearsal calendar of each category will be published on the Competition website. Each candidate is required to inquire personally.

Art. 10
The results will be announced at the end of each category performance. The absolute winners of each category are compelled to perform at the Award Galà on Sunday July 9 th ,2023 at "Sala Alida Ferrarini" in Villafranca di Verona, under penalty of losing the prize.
The prizes could not be sent by mail. The prizes of the first, second, third and fourth classified, will be consigned at the end of each category’s execution.

Art. 11
The jury will be formed by members of international fame.
The judges who having had continuous teaching relationship with one or more candidates up to two years prior of the competition, must abstain from the discussion and the voting of the performance.
The jury has the right to interrupt the execution if it exceeds the allowed duration.
The jury has the right not to award prizes and scholarships to candidates who have not achieved a qualitative level worthy of awarding the prize.
The jury's judgment is unquestionable and irrevocable.

Art. 12
The jury may interrupt the contestants or listen to them again if they deems it necessary.

Art. 13
The organizing committee reserves the right to set up sub-commissions for the various sections, as well as to integrate them with other judges in case of absence of the listed Masters.

Art. 14
By registration to the competition, the competitor or parent, in the case of a minor, authorizes the Association, pursuant to Article 10 and Article 230 of the Civil Code and Articles 96 and 97 Law of 22 April 1941 nr. 663 (Italian Copyright Law) to the publication of photos, videos or other audiovisual material representing the competitor, taken by personnel authorized by the aforementioned Association,
on the websites of the Competition.

Art. 15
Travel and accommodation costs are borne by the competitors. A list of discounted hotels can be consulted on the Competition website.

Art.16
Registration for the competition implies the unconditional acceptance of the rules established by this announcement.

AWARDS

FIRST SECTION AWARD

The absolute first with highest score, not inferior to 95/100, will receive the below indicated scolarships:
Cat. First notes: € 80,00
Cat. A: € 100,00
Cat. B: € 150,00
Cat. C: € 200,00
Cat. D: € 300,00
Cat. E: € 500,00

To the First Prizes (with scoring from da 95 to 99/100): cup and diploma;
To the Second Prizes (with scoring from 90 to 94/100): medal and diploma;
To the Third Prizes (with scoring from 85 to 89/100): medal and diploma.
To the Fourth Prizes (with scoring from 80 to 84/100): diploma.
All competitors will receive a diploma of attendance.
The jury has the right to award ex-aequo prizes for all sections. In this case the scolarships will be equally divided among the winners.

SECOND SECTION AWARD (PIANISTIC EXECUTION)

 

First Prize: € 3.000.000;
Second Prize: € 2.000.000;
Third Prize: € 1.000.000.
It is not foreseen ex-aequo awarding.

SPECIAL PRIZES

Public Prize
awarded to the winner who will obtain the highest number of votes from the public during the Award Galà: scholarship of Euro 350,00.

Absolute Prize of the Competition
to the musician who has distinguished himself for technical, expressive and musical qualities
